Monthly Summery for Englishtown

I did not go to the Englishtown for my study. Because I got some excuses that my account has been created for another people. I felt embarrassed because most of the teachers called a girl’s name. That was terrible.

Let’s start from 22th, July. It’s quite a long time.

22th, July: The topic is about India. But it is hard to remember.

Spicy food: means that some extra component added into the food. Maybe it is very hot. For example: I am addicted to spicy food. That means I enjoy food with hot very much.

On 23th, the topic is about Advertisement. Here are some interesting advertisements.

The first picture is about the IPOD. It is a MP3 player. It is in fresh looking, modern and aimed for young people.

The right picture on the first line is a laptop. And I guess it is posted by DELL Company. In this AD, we can see there are too much information offered in the right side of the picture. It also shows the price “$399”. But it is not colourful. It is dull (Old fashioned.) .

And the third one is funny. HAHA! We can see that the man called PC is fatter than the one called MAC. The MAC is more effective. Sometimes I agree with that. 🙂

The next picture, maybe it is shotted from a building. Maybe the word, “don’t jump”, it is hard to understand. We can paraphase this sentence into “We can help you, don’t jump.” On the right side of the corner. There is a URL.

The last picture, “I never read the Economist”. It is written by a Management Trainer aged about 4X years old. It is easily to understand. He spent half of his life and only get a manager. But he did not read this magzine. Maybe that is why he did not get promotion at a younger age.

New Words:

Slogan: It is a type of a sentence or a few words. For example, “One World, One dream” is a slogan. And there are some benefits: 1. Companies use slogan to attract us. 2. They use simple way to make us remember.

Here are some famous slogans:

Just do it (Nike)~~ It is very popular around the world.

It is. Are you? (The Indenpendent – Newspaper.)~~It is the Indenpendent!

Testimonial: It is similiar with the Recommend Letter.

Enticing: Means attractive.

Subtle [‘S/\tl]: means tricky.

But there is too much advertising in our lives.

On 24th, July, the topic is about keeping fit.

The model sentence is “I keep fit by …… “.

New Words:

Jogging: It is seems to be one type of running, but in a lower speed. Example: I always go jogging with my dog.

Fit as a fiddle: It is a verbal-phase. It means very healthy.   

Fight fit~ Very strong.

Here are some tests:

1. You can eat anything you want if you are fit.

If we eat an unhealthy diet, we will become fat.

2. You only need to do exercise in order to lose weight.

We need to exercise in order to maintain a healthy body, heart, main.

3. You should train very hard when you first join a gym so you can catch up with the other member.

You need to begin an exercise progran slowly. Listen to your body.

4. You need to go to the gym or buy expensive equipment in order to get fit.

You can exercise at home. You can go outdoors and lead an active lifestyle.

5. A good exercise program includes cardiovascular training, strength training (1.e. with weights) and stretching.

6. You should hold your breath when lifting weights.

You should remember to breathe when lifting weights.

25th, July: Sports

New Words:

Contact sports: One item of sports, for example: football, boxing, rugby etc.

Overflowing: ==flooding    Example: Rivers are overflowing.

Question: Who is your favourite sportsperson? Why do you like them?

One possible solution: My favourite sports person is LiuXiang. He is very brave and he always trusts himself in the match and I think it is the athletic spirit. I think that ehrer are many other athletes that don’t have the same spirit in the competetion. I am not sure whether or not he will win in 2008 Olympics in track and field, but I will study his spirit.

2nd solution: My favourite athlete is Zedane – a  very famous French football player. Actually, I am not a person who likes sports much but I like watching football – especially the world cup. Many people him and others don’t.

On 26th, July: Travel

New Words:

Transition: ==transform, change.

Passion: ==enthusiasm.  Example: You showed your passion in this class.

Slacker: ==lazy bones

Dialect [daiElekt] : Different pronouncation for different areas of country.

We were talking about budgets on 28th, 2008.

Questions:

Answers:

1. It is a fiancial plan, allocate money for specific purpose.

2. It is a holiday that you don’t need a lot of money for.

3. The most expensive holiday I have been on was to Thailand.

4. The cheapest holiday for me is when I go traveling, within my country. We use our car to travel so we don’t need to stay in a hotel.
